The Sony NEX-5 hands ultra portable camera with interchangeable lenses and HD video was only made official an hour ago, but we don’t like to hang around. We grabbed the new Alpha for a quick shooting sesh already, so read on for the snaps and first impressions.
While there’s no doubt those smitten with Panasonic and Olympus’ Micro Four Thirds platform cameras will be annoyed at Sony unleashing its own similar but proprietary format, there’s no denying the first models in the range, the Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3, are absolutely beautiful. They’re incredibly thin, with a wonderful old school mottled grip and solid metal build.
Sony NEX-5 official: first Alpha with HD video
We weren’t so impressed with the 3-inch screen on the back of the Sony NEX-5 though: it was a tad dull and reflective, but we’ll save a more full verdict for when we take the Sony NEX-5 out and about later today to see how it handles pictures, video and even 3D Panoramas.
Still, for anyone with a collection of Sony Alpha lenses already, the mount adaptor to plug them into the Sony NEX-5 could prove a serious selling point. The Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 ship in the Summer, but you can while away the months between now and then by perusing our hands on photo gallery right here. Click through for all the snaps, plus some bonus shots of the Sony NEX-3, and the different lenses they’ll work with.
