Does anyone think this is a bad thing that there is no option for a free/subsidised version on a contract? There are plenty of data deals from the networks where you get the laptop/netbook thrown in. Or is it better this way? My worry is it starts with iPads, then mobiles, then SKY etc etc….

    Hi,
I went for the 32gb wifi only ipad, for two reasons really. I went for the wifi version because mainly i will use this device in my living room and occasionally take it out round friends & family so i don’t need the extra expense of a 3g data plan as i can use my iphone 3GS for any web or email i need outside of the home, also i wouldn’t feel comftable pulling this bad boy device out in public with out looking over my shoulder for someone to snatch it. So Wifi suits my pocket and me better.
And i went for the 32gb model because i feel 16gb wouldn’t be enough storage you i will be limited, which would annoy me. And i didn’t go for the 64gb simply because i feel it is to expensive i mean your nearly pushing into the macbook territory. I personally feel £499 should be the price for 64gb Wifi model

I’m with Eddie on all counts. I suspect iPad apps are going to be a little more memory hungry than previous incarnations, so 16gb probably wouldn’t last long. I can use the iPad to watch films or TV while I’m in the kitchen too, so I’ll need some extra memory for that too..

Eddie and Dom have hit the nail on the head in my opinion, I also went for WiFi 32Gb, on the rare occasions I need to use away from home just surf via the WiFi router function on my HTC HD2 with the internet I already pay for on my contract phone.

BTW, what was Vodafone thinking when it came up with their iPad data tariffs, way off the mark – it’s almost like they want to put people off selecting them as their carrier!!
