Samsung bada, the South Korean gadget giant’s much hyped new mobile OS, has passed another major milestone, with the launch of the first SDK for developers. Now, anyone interested in making apps for the platform can, for free. Will we see any iPhone App Store style successes?

While Samsung has reportedly already been seeding an SDK to close partners for Samsung bada, its new smartphone OS set to debut on the Samsung Wave phone, it’s now available for anyone to download for free, by registering over at the Samsung bada developer site.

The launch of a public SDK for Samsung bada means third party developers can start work on apps for the new OS now, in time for the launch of the Wave phone, expected in the next few months.

Samsung’s official announcement on the Samsung bada SDK launch also gives us a few more interesting details on the platform. It will support Adobe Flash, unlike the iPhone and iPad, and intriguingly, face detection, which could potentially be used to add a layer of security in apps, or provide an easy way to log in.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Samsung bada proves a hit with developers or not: the iPhone only really flowered when third party developers were allowed to make native apps, but Palm has struggled to fill its App Catalog in the same way. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Samsung bada and the first phones running it, so stay tuned.
