Humax has issued an apology and promised a software upgrade after owners of older Humax Freeview PVRs were plagued with faults including freezing and slow performance. Read on to find out if your Humax Freeview PVR is due for a fix.

Humax accepts that owners of several of its Freeview PVR models (the Humax PVR-9150T, Humax PVR-9300T and Humax PVR-9200T) have had problems for “several months”. Though its technical team has been working on a fix, it claims the issues are so complex that it has taken longer than expected.

Humax says: “Significant performance issues became particularly apparent through the digital switchover.” Thankfully if your Humax Freeview PVR has been struggling, a fix is now on the way. Humax says it will be delivering an automatic over-the-air software upgrade in the next fews weeks and will announce it on its website.

Has your Humax Freeview PVR been giving your trouble? Let us know what problems you’ve been having and if you’re happy with the solution Humax has offered.

We have the 9300. It’s perfectly usable, but there’s definite picture/voice lag and when watching recordings the picture can freeze occasionally. Is there a link to the apology and promise anywhere? It would be good to beat them up with it if it never arrives.

  • Mr R A Garland

I have contacted Humax on numerous occasions since DSO regarding PVR9200 problems have been promised OTA software upgrade will be delivered in the next 2-3 weeks many times. Humax are not to be believed – they have failed to deliver.

I’ve had Humax PVR-9200T for >2.5yrs and had very few problems compared to other people I know. I even got both parents to buy one. Within the last year slowness has been a problem (e.g. guide refresh and response to other buttons have got slower. Just got back from an extended stay in Japan (Ash!!!) and it is now really slow (many minutes to even change channels or change the volume. This has coincided with the digital switch over here in the Bristol area. Some of my friends hae been complaining to Humax about this for many months and their response has been the same as their machines. SLOW. I’m not holding my breath for a quick fix.

I have the 9200 and had the same experience as R Garland. Doesn’t respond to remote control, only way to reset it is via the main power button on the back.

Switch over in my region was December, Humax promised an update then (a few weeks they promised) – well I’m still waiting!!

I have a 9200 that has been suffering from being sluggish, today I found it had frozen and had to unplug it from the mains then it worked again for about a minute before freezing again, I repeated the proceedure 3 times before giving up removing it putting the old vhs video back into place!
I guess I will end up listing my humax on ebay as faulty with no reserve!

Humax PVR9150T. Sluggish remote (can take several minutes to respond) freezing picture and missed recordings. Perfect before Digital Switch Over (DSO) but now very very frustrating.
Come on HUMAX get that software update out. Even if it’s not finished and perfect get it out now. You can update later. My box is almost unusable.
Turn it off and on again and its OK for a 30 mins then back to the same! Yes I have the latest release software version 18 released in Jan 2010 but it’s only a little better than previous.
Get that beta version out now!

PVR9150T: Has begun turning itself off and on regularly. Very annoying. I keep checking for updates as it says last update June 2008, but still waiting for new update to see if this solves it, or its a hardware fault. Trouble is how long can you wait with an unwatchable box (not that there’s much to watch on). 4 channels used to take 2 mins to decide there’s nothing good to watch, now takes 20 mins for the same conclusion:)

PVR9200T: I was getting all of these problems, but ended up mailing Humax Support and managed to get the beta version of the software fix. Ended up costing me about £12 as had to buy the cables to link from my PC to the Humax box (it needs a com connection, so as I have a laptop had to buy a convertor. Applied the fix and it’s made the world of difference. Very little hanging now, although it’s back to the old days on the Digi Guide, taking about 10 minutes to load up. They did warn me about that though, I think it’s what they are still trying to fix! So it was a hassle, but in the end I no longer have a hanging Humax, so I’m happy!

I bought a PVR9150T last week to replace a Sony HD which died. Agree with the comments but stll an improvement on the Sony. However am very confused by the edit facility (copy and delete) as Page 41 of the manual (form CD) described and illustrates a very different set up to what appears on the TV screen – can anyone explain this? I think I have worked out how to copy a section – but not by doing what the manual says.

I’ve had my PVR9200T since Jan 08 and it has worked fine the whole time, but over the last week recorded programmes have been stored using duplicate names of other recorded programmes (recorded weeks, months or years ago), so there is no way of knowing what newly recorded programmes are stored except by looking at what appears to be duplicate programmes. Then tonight while trying to delete some programmes which were stored but incorrectly titled in this way, the PVR just completely jammed (this happens sometimes, esp when there is a delay between the remote and the action), so I switched it off and on again at the back, and now I have lost EVERY single programme that I recorded, some of which I recorded the first day I bought the machine and were the reason I actually bought it!!

I've been trying to get decent reception on my Humax PVR 9200T for about 6 weeks. I've had two new machines, and retuned the wretched thing manually almost daily, but can only receive BBC channels. Eventually Humax disowned me, saying that there was no problem their end, and that I should buy an aerial booster. Then this morning I got a message on screen saying there was an upgrade, and suddenly I can get 99 channels again. And Humax are still saying it had nothing to do with them – reception in my area code was fine all along. I can put up with poor reception but I hate being lied to, especially when it involves telling me to buy expensive and unnecessary extra equipment.

My Humax often freezes, is slow to display the guide and most irritating, sometimes only records half a programme.

  • assarts98

Our HUMAX PVR 9200t is failing to record from standby. It has thrown away all my recorded programmes. It's clock displays a variety of times sometimes wrong sometimes right. I'm currently playing “Whites” which was on BBC2 last night. When I press “Info” on the machine, it tells me its replaying “The Archers” from Radio 4. Will the upgrade cure the clock and recording faults- or do I – as various forums reckon – need a new clock module and/or batteries?

My Humax has occasional problem with syncing sound and picture, also fails to record on occasion although it says it has recorded.

  • Nicksmith1

We have been using our Humax PVR virtually trouble free for 2+ years but this evening, whilst watching BBC2 through the Humax, it suddenly changed to BBC1. There was no inadvertant contact with the remote control, it happened ‘unprovoked’! I changed channels back to BBC2 and continued to watch the prog for a further couple of minutes before it again reverted to BBC1. This happened several times, sometimes with only seconds between swapping back to BBC2. I managed to get onto the correct channel again and quickly pressed record before it swapped back to BBC1 – it did however record the correct station. I tried re-searching and storing the channels but this didn’t fix it. However, I became aware of a message appearing very briefly in the top right hand corner of the picture which said something like ‘please wait’ but it was only there (frequently) for ~half a second a time. Any ideas anyone??

My Humax PVR-9300T has been ‘freezing’ on and off for many weeks since it was purchased before the Christmas change over to digital. The supplier says the device seems faulty. Could you give my e-mail address a possible solution such as replacing the device or upgrading it somehow? This should be done free of charge.

  • Gutted

All my recorded programmes have disappeared! Have recommended Humax to loads of people so feel gutted on two counts.

  • Fiddy

All pictures on our Humax 9300T (including recorded ones) suddenly changed colour to dark  red and very indistinct.   The T.V. set in isolation functions perfectly in all respects

My area went through phase 1 of the digital switchover on 7th March.  Since then my PVR9200T cannot recieve any BBC channels despite the auto search reporting that the channels are present.
I checked the HUMAX website but the only info available with regard to updated software is for the 9150T and the 9300T.  No mention of the 9200T.
I subsequently emailed HUMAX Support to ask when/if I could expect an upgraded version of the software to be available.  They have not responded which is disappointing as they are usually very good at getting back to customers.

I have a PVR 9200T which up until the digital changeover had worked fine apart from the guide being slow at times.
I have tried tuning it a couple of times but it  now won’t record at all.
Admittedly I only have an indoor aerial though with a booster.
It would be difficult for me to have an outdoor aerial.
I am actually fairly near a strong transmitter.
Can you gime me any help in this matter.
