The Nokia X2 music phone has just been announced, quietly landing on the same week as the Nokia N8 monster flagship phone. Unlike the N8, it’s a budget phone aimed at those who want easy controls for their tunes and nothing more, but it costs a whole lot less too. Read on for the details.

The Nokia X2 is a close relative of the Nokia X3 slider phone already on sale, with the same focus on music, but a straightforward candybar build. The Nokia X2 doesn’t have 3G, but does sport a five megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio, FM radio and dedicated music buttons running down the side, next to the 2.2-inch screen. That’s not a bad deal for €85 (£73), especially since networks are likely to subsidise the cost even further.

The Nokia X2 also supports Comes With Music, for loading up on unlimited tunes for a whole year, though it’s not confirmed if it will be sold with this option in the UK yet.

In truth, we’re a little bit puzzled by the Nokia X2. It’s running the same Symbian S40 as the lovely Nokia 5130 from 2008, and only really boasts a better camera over it. In exchange, you get a rather wide, chunky design that doesn’t look especially comfortable held up to your head. But hey, we’re ready to be proved wrong, and we’ll find out for sure when the Nokia X2 launches at the end of June.
