The eagerly awaited Nokia Symbian 3 OS has been delayed. The announcement follows rumours that the Symbian 3 OS-touting Nokia N8 wasn’t going to arrive on time. It seems they were bang on the money. So when can we expect the Nokia Symbian 3 OS and will it be able to battle Android and iPhone 4.0?
The Nokia Symbian 3 OS was originally meant to arrive this summer but Nokia has revealed that it doesn’t yet meet the standards required to be the finished article. Holding back the Symbian 3 OS also means the iPhone-battling Nokia N8 won’t be in our hands until later in the year either.
Discussing Nokia’s financial results, Nokia Chief Executive, Olli Pekka Kallasvuo dropped the bomb that we won’t be seeing the Symbian 3 OS in June: “We will not ship the product before the quality meets the end user’s needs and demands. It’s a painful thing to delay something a bit…”
The 12MP packing, touchscreen Nokia N8 was first rumoured to be hitting O2 in May but we heard earlier this month that it might be delayed until July. With the Nokia Symbian 3 OS now pushed back until later in the year, we can only hope the Nokia N8 will arrive in September at Nokia World.
Do you think the Nokia Symbian 3 OS and the Nokia N8 can still make a difference? Or will the likelihood of arriving after Apple drops iPhone 4.0 stop it in its tracks? Maybe the touchscreen Nokia X6 can tide us over in the meantime.
