The Garmin Nuvi 3790T is a brand new satnav with specs more suited to the next iPhone. We’re not just talking about a sharp, finger friendly capacitive touchscreen, but multitouch too for pinch zooming on maps!

Make no mistake, the Garmin Nuvi 3790T will get stolen if you leave it in your car overnight: it’s a world away from the chunky plastic of TomTom‘s finest PNDs. The Garmin 3790T is just 9mm thin, boasts a brushed metal back and a 4.3-inch WVGA screen that allows for pinch zooming and twisting on maps to give you a better sense of where you are.

That it uses the more expensive capacitive touchscreen tech is also a bonus, as it’s more responsive to finger presses, and should make typing addresses less of a pain.

On the software front, the Garmin Nuvi 3790T serves up 3D terrain views, Bluetooth support for hands free calls, ecoRoute (To supposedly save petrol on journeys) and most usefully, tarfficTrends, which calculates routes based on historical data for the time of day you’re travelling, like TomTom’s IQ Routes feature.

The Garmin Nuvi 3790T is flanked by two more new satnavs in the 3700 series too, the 3760T, which lacks 3D terrain view, and the 3750, which skips the Bluetooth too.

Unfortunately there’s no ETA for the Garmin Nuvi 3790T and the 3700 series just yet, but we’ll bounce back with the solid launch details when we get them, and in the meantime, help yourself to the video below, showing it in action.
