Nokia C3 official photos: Symbian S40 goes QWERTY

The Nokia C3 is Espoo’s latest attempt at a super cheap messaging phone to take on the likes of the INQ Chat 3G and the Samsung Genio Slide. At under £80 with a full QWERTY keyboard, this time, we reckon it might just have nailed it.

Now on paper, the Nokia C3 might not seem all that enticing. Symbian S40, Nokia’s low power, less feature filled version of its operating system is onboard, there’s no 3G, and the Nokia C3′s camera is a pox two megapixels. The screen meanwhile is a Garibaldi-sized 2.40inch display with a low res 320×240 panel, and if you want to listen to music, you’ll need to bring your own microSD card – though there is a 3.5mm audio port which is a plus.

What the Nokia C3 does have however, is messaging prowess and a cheap asking price. Nokia’s proved with the E71 and E72 that it knows how to make portrait physical keyboards that’ll match the word per minute rate of the latest BlackBerry, and the Nokia C3 doesn’t look to have failed here. Wi-Fi is also included, so you’ll be able to cruise the web at speed in hotspots. And it’ll cost just €90 (£79) before VAT when it goes on sale in the second quarter of the year, which for anyone keeping count, is now.

We’d expect that low price SIM-free means even better deals on contract for the Nokia C3, so look out for the phone on a ludicrously low Pay AS You Go tariff soon.
