Foursquare, the location based mobile app, is the latest social network to be roped into use in this year’s general election. In a web savvy coup, one group of cheeky political campaigners have managed to get Liberal Democrat MP Vince Cable made Foursquare mayor of 11 Downing Street, where the chancellor lives!

Head on over to the Foursquare site now, and you can see that one InVinceCable is now the mayor of 11 Downing Street, meaning that he’s checked in more than any other Foursquare user at that location. It’s a cheeky political statement, as InVinceCable is a campaign site and Twitter feed pushing for the Liberal Democrat shadow chancellor to be made Chancellor in the event of a hung Parliament. If that were to happen, 11 Downing Street would be where he would live.

Foursquare cracks down on cheat check-ins

The InVinceCable Foursquare account and website aren’t endorsed by Vince Cable, it should be stressed, but it’s the most entertaining campaign move we’ve seen so far this month, and could trigger a host of rival MPs (And even Alistair Darling himself) joining to win an unelected mayoral position at Downing Street. We’ll be watching Foursquare closely for any candidates logging on, but in the meantime be sure to check out our General Election voting guide for gadget fans.
