Sony has unveiled two new in-car music systems aimed at the digital music user. The Sony DSX-S200X and Sony DSX-S300BTX are head units with twin USB ports, allowing them to be neatly linked up to a USB drive, Sony Walkman or iPod. You simply flip down the panel and slide the device in.
Sony calls the concept “Tune Tray”, and the twin USBs allow you to connect two devices at once. Both models have a 4-line digital display to deliver info, as well as a host of music-related features.
There’s SensMe, which automatically sorts your music collection into different themed mood channels with names like “Freeway” and “Midnight Cruise”. ZAPPIN, meanwhile, plays highlights of each song so you can quickly choose one you like. Then there’s Quick-BrowZer, which allows you to search your collection by artist, album, genre, playlist and more by spinning the volume dial, then pressing it to select.
Sony has also shoehorned in its Advanced Sound Engine digital signal processing tech, which it claims delivers “the ideal in-car sound field”.
The Sony DSX-S200X and Sony DSX-S300BTX are largely similar, but the latter also acts as a cordless in-car speakerphone thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. You can sync it with up to 500 of your phone’s contacts, browsing them on the 4-line display and selecting one to call them. You can also stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth-equipped device.
