The LG OLED TV we’ve been checking out at tradeshows for the last year and a half is finally getting a UK release, the South Korean giant has confirmed. Sony’s teeny tiny XEL-1 is getting an OLED rival, and the good news is this one’s destined to be a whole lot cheaper.
The 15-inch LG OLED TV (or LG 15EL9500 to give it its full name) has been doing the rounds at each and every LG press event or gadget tradeshow we hit, and while its rich image quality really is staggering (that’d down to the vivid OLED tech you might have seen in some new phones), LG’s refusal to give a proper shipping date has been equally so. Now though, the company’s revealed that the LG OLED TV will be going on sale in the UK this month.
Image aside, the LG OLED TV is a 720p resolution gogglebox with plenty of other respectable specs too: it’s got Freeview built in, as well as a USB port for movie playback off a memory stick (DivX HD encoded). It also happens to be just 3.2mm thick. No, seriously. It’s that thin.
LG has yet to set a price for the LG OLED TV, but told us that it will be in the region of £1,500 to £2,000. That’s an awful lot for a 15-inch TV, but compared to the only other OLED model on the market, the smaller £3,500 Sony XEL-1, it’s a bargain.
Expect the LG OLED TV in shops later this month. Now then, Samsung, can we have one from you next please? We could do with some competition to drive prices down.
Out April | £TBC | LG
