iPad sales estimates are mostly guess work as shown by the gap between Apple’s official iPad launch day sales (300,000) and the 700,000 iPad sales predicted by analysts. But now internet ad network Chitika is aiming to show iPad sales in real time. If it’s right, iPad sales have rocketed over 500,000…

Chitika is using the number of unique visits by iPad Safari browsers to sites in its network and multiplying that number by the percentage of the internet it covers. It’s not perfect but we reckon it’s still delivering quite a good picture of iPad sales.

If Chitika is right and iPad sales have jumped over 500,000, that means the iPad has already outstripped the Wii’s first month sales (497,000). Maybe Nintendo should be worried about the iPad.

Based on those figures, the iPad is also well on the way to beating the first month sales for the Xbox 360 (900,000). We told you yesterday that the iPad beat the first day PS3 sales.

At the time of writing this sentence, Chitika was estimating that 99,270 new iPads have hit its ad network today.
