Not spotted an iPad in public yet? You will after today. The first shipments of iPads into the UK landed last night, and are winging their way to waiting hands this morning. How do we know? Because our iPad is amongst them. The first iPads in Britain have arrived, get set for touchdown.

The fastest pre-orderers slapped down their cash (or used a proxy purchaser, such as BundleBox) on the March 12th, and had their iPads dutifully delivered to a US address by Apple last Saturday, April 3rd. From there, it’s a short hop for the iPad across the Atlantic to the UK, but even the quickest couriers haven’t been able to get them here any sooner than today.

iPad UK launch date revealed?

Stay tuned and we’ll bring you all the iPad unboxing photos as soon as ours touches down on the doormat, as well as a full review, and more features than you can shake an unwanted stylus at. Give us your experiences too. Have you imported an iPad? Shout up in the comments below.

Really wish I’d ordered one… having withdrawal symptoms for something I’ve never even SEEN! Guess I’ll have to make do looking at yours.

I’ve created a “iPad, stop here!” sign… from an old “Santa, stop here!” sign left over from Christmas. I’m hoping the FedEx man gets the hint…

Got mine from the states today – LOVING IT. EXCEPT: i think I might be in the wifi issue bunch. I’ve only tried at public wifi spots, and only briefly, but not looking good.. will test out tonight.

But otherwise, it really is a beauty!

I brought one across for the US but I have been unable to activate it. Itunes 9.1 says “ipad detected but unable to confirm….” Support says it has to be activated within the US. Any idea how to get round this? How did you manage to get yours going?

        Hi Roger,

Ours was activated and first synced with a UK iTunes account. No problem whatsoever. However, to test iBooks and some of the US-only apps, you’ll need a US iTunes account. It’s not hard to get one of these. Have a google and you should find handy guides. Basically, you’ll need a US address and/or credit card, or failing that an iTunes US gift card to open the account. Do it at your own risk though – we had a US buddy open our account, so it’s legit, but it’s the sort of thing that could be easily shut down by Cupertino if they have a problem with foreign activations.

There are reports that imported iPads can’t access the app store without a US billing address and payment method.
