A Nokia MeeGo tablet iPad rival could be in the pipeline, primed to take on Apple. That’s according to an expert with close connections to Nokia’s tech partners, so read on for all the spilled beans.
TheStreet reports that Nokia is designing an iPad rival touchscreen tablet, according to analyst Ashok Kumar, who has the inside word from Nokia’s technology partners. The publication broke the news of the Nokia N900 this time a year ago, months ahead of launch, so we’re inclined to sit up and take note.
Could it be a Nokia MeeGo slate? Although he doesn’t specify what operating system it’ll run, he claims it could arrive as early as the fall (Autumn to us Brits), and that “a strong Intel backing here could be an important advantage”, and both Nokia and Intel, the pioneers behind MeeGo, have been clear from the start that it’s designed for more than mere phones.
Intel and Nokia Meego plans: everything you need to know
If a Nokia MeeGo tablet is in the works, the Finnish phone giant would join a long line of big name brands believed to be prepping tablets, including Asus, MSI, Microsoft and Samsung, to compete against the Apple and its iPad, which has already sold 300,000 in the space of a weekend in the US.
Whether or not a Nokia MeeGo tablet will beat the iPad is another matter entirely, and Kumar’s not at all convinced: “”I’m not holding my breath on this one,” he said. Excuse us if we stay optimistic on this one, won’t you? You’ll know as soon as we do if any more details on a Nokia MeeGo tablet break cover.
