Microsoft Project Pink phones are apparently set to arrive on Monday, in the wake of Apple’s iPhone OS 4 event. Will the Microsoft Project Pink handsets and their rumoured social media smarts manage to grab some of the hype from the iPad and iPhone OS 4 update?

Microsoft has announced that it’s holding an event on Monday and Reuters claims “sources familiar with the matter” say the subject will be Project Pink.

A leak last month seemingly confirmed that the Microsoft Project Pink phone was on the way, would be built by Sharp and was headed to US networks as a Microsoft branded phone following the lead shown by Google with the Nexus One.

Reuters sources apparently confirm that the Microsoft Project Pink phones are being built by Sharp which made the Sidekick. Microsoft now owns Danger which created the Sidekick but no products have emerged from the firm since it was swallowed up.  It looks like that’s set to change.

Rumours suggest that the Microsoft Project Pink devices will not make use of Windows Phone 7 Series and focus on social media features.

Windows Phone 7 Series impressed lots of people but can Microsoft repeat that initial success with Project Pink? Will Microsoft be able to interest you in a Zune phone or are you just waiting for iPhone 4.0?

Due Monday | £TBC | Microsoft (via Reuters)
