The Elgato EyeTV iPhone app has just received a little tweak to bring back the secret video streaming skills over 3G we exclusively revealed last year. This time though, it’s all kosher with Apple, so you can bet it’s here to stay.
The 1.0.2 update for the Elgato EyeTV iPhone app brings with it a killer feature: official streaming of live and recorded telly from your computer straight to your phone, wherever you are, over 3G as well as Wi-Fi.

It’s been something of a rollercoaster ride for Elgato users with iPhones of late. After we revealed that Elagto had provided a secret 3G streaming option on the Elgato EyeTV iPhone app to slip through Apple’s approval process, it was pulled from the App Store. Then in December, Elgato brought 3G streaming back through a web app accessible from the iPhone’s Safari browser (This will continue to work, we’ve confirmed with Elgato). Now though, it’s back for good in the Elgato EyeTV iPhone app too, so you’ll even be able to watch the footie on the bus from now on, with all the slick and speedy menus we’ve come to expect of a native iPhone app.
The updated Elgato EyeTV iPhone app is free and ready to download now, but you’ll need Elgato’s EyeTV 3.3.3 desktop software and a TV tuner.
