iPhone 4.0 watchers, hold tight! There’s a new iPhone, or at least the software for one, coming sooner than we’d dared to hope. Apple’s going to show off the next-gen iPhone OS on Thursday, just days after the US launch of the iPad.
Surprising US techno-hacks so soon after unleashing the iPad, Apple has issued invitations to the American press, asking them to its Cupertino campus on April 8th at 10am local time, or 6pm in the UK. Its invites leave little ambiguity too, stating loud and proud that Apple will give a: “sneak peek of the next generation of iPhone OS software.”
Rumours that the iPhone 4.0 software will bring multitasking have already run wild on the web, with Apple Insider reporting its sources have confirmed the new iPhone will run more than one app at once with full multitasking, letting owners switch between them by double-clicking the home button.
At present, that function calls up iPod shortcuts, letting you control music while inside an app or game.
And that’s not the only evidence for an iPhone 4.0 update being imminent. Lucky iPad owners have already dived into the Apple tablet’s software, revealing mentions of two unreleased iPhones (codenamed iPhone 3,2 and iPhone 3,3) as well as a new iPod touch (dubbed iPod 4,1) and even a next-gen iPad (called iProd 4,1).
Already suffering Apple fatigue after the deluge of iPad news? There’s no sign of a let-up yet. Get set for iPhone 4.0 overload!
