The iPad sales figures predicted by analyst Gene Munster earlier today turned out to be a little exaggerated, by over 50% in fact. Apple has released its own numbers and revealed that iPad first day sales. It says “over 300,000” were snapped up through delivery and store pick up.
Apple also revealed iPad apps sales. New iPad owners apparently snapped up 1m iPad apps from the iTunes App Store and 250,000 ebooks from the iBookstore.
Steve Jobs made a characteristically modest comment: “It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world – it’s going to be a game changer.”
Apple claims iPad owners downloaded just over three apps and one book after unwrapping their new wonder tablets. It’s worth noting though that you can download iPad apps even if you haven’t got an iPad yet.
While Apple is revelling in the US iPad sales figures we’re still waiting for a UK iPad price and a UK iPad release date. How much longer will we be stuck with late-April as a shipping date?
