iPad app Scrabble

iPad apps are starting to really break cover with the first iPad reviews hitting the web in time for the US iPad launch on Saturday. Stephen Fry who posted an iPad video hands-on earlier today has also revealed a smattering of iPad apps screenshots. What new iPad apps can you look forward to? Here’s the pick of iPad apps from Stephen Fry’s iPad…

We got what appeared to be a real glimpse of iPad apps in their natural habitat in the iPad App Store video earlier this week. We’ve also seen list of iPad games leak. But the iPad apps revealed by Stephen Fry make up the first list of totally confirmed iPad apps we’ve seen so far. Here are the iPad apps he’s revealed:

Bento
There’s likely to be a big subset of iPad apps dedicated to productivity and this is the iPad version of Filemaker’s long standing file organisation app Bento which is already available in Mac and iPhone versions.

The Elements
We’re not sure about this one but suspect it’s the animated Periodic Table app that Stephen Fry called “alone worth the iPad” on Twitter. It’s the first educational app we’ve seen among the iPad apps and made by Theodore Gray of Wolfram Research. You can see a screenshot from that app in the iPad apps gallery above.

Epicurious
No screen shot from this one but this is from the foodie category of iPad apps, an iPad version of the recipe stuffed iPad app which also keeps a running shopping list of ingredients you need.

Fieldrunners
We’ve heard that the bulk of early iPad apps are games and Fieldrunners is one of them, a tower defence game that joins Plants Vs Zombies in the march to the iPad App Store.

Fairies Fly iPad
Another one of the many iPad games, an iPad update of the existing Disney iPhone game which stars Tinkerbell and a clutch of not so famous fairies.

Igga Arcade
Presumably a iPad game or selection of iPad mini-games. This iPad app doesn’t seem to have a previous iPhone version.

Labyrinth 2
An iPhone puzzler remade for the iPad. We saw this in a previous early list of iPad apps.

News Pro
With the Reuters logo at the heart of its icon, this is an iPad version of the news agency’s current News Pro iPhone app.

N.O.V.A
N.O.V.A or Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance is currently an iPhone action game, released in December 2009, it was updated earlier this month.

Photogene
Photo editing app already on the iPhone but likely to be pretty handy in a souped-up iPad version with lots of filters and editing modes.

RealRacingHD
One of the first iPad apps we heard about and featured heavily in the iPad App Store video.

Scrabble
Revealed in Stephen Fry’s flurry of iPad apps screenshots on Twitter. It’s Scrabble translated to the iPad with the option to play against the computer as well as real humans.

Twitterific
The popular free Twitter app reborn in an iPad friendly form

Zflow.com
Zflow doesn’t have any existing apps on the iTunes App Store but has previously offered tech for creating Coverflow style galleries in Safari on the iPhone.

Sketchbook Pro
Set to be one of many iPad apps for sketching and drawing, the interesting thing about Sketchbook Pro is that it’s developed by Autodesk, the firm behind lots of the heavy duty CAD packages used by designers and architects.

Smule Magic Piano
A twisting piano app from Smule who make the insanely popular Ocarina iPhone app.

Marvel
Comic reader from Marvel which, according to early reviews, follows the template provided by the iBook Store allowing you to browse cover art, view synopses and make in app purchases of comics you want.

Maybe the focus should not only be on games, but rather on business apps and other useful tools. It’s safe to say that games in general are good incentives to reach the masses, but for getting into the business world, other more relevant apps are needed. The iPad has the potential to be a device of huge variaty, it should be supported from all sides.
