The Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus webOS smartphones are still only on sale in North America, but a major mobile industry body has just given Euro friendly GSM versions certification. The upshot? Versions that work with UK 3G are on the way: it looks like those rumours of an O2 launch next month just got some extra credence.
The Unwired has spotted that the Global Certification Forum has approved two new Palm models, the Palm P101UEU and P121UEU. At any rate, that means Palm has two new phones ready for launch in Europe, and it’s very likely they’re the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, based on similar codenames used in US regulatory filings. The Palm Pre Plus has cropped up in German filings before, but this is the very first evidence of the Palm Pixi Plus coming to the UK.
Both models are certified for with 3G support at 2100MHz frequency, which means that if they are the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, they’ll work on UK 3G networks, so even if they don’t launch here (And we don’t see why not), you’ll be able to import one and pop your existing SIM card in with no hassle.
Of course, we’re optimistic that the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will launch here: Palm has always said it plans to bring the smaller Palm Pixi to the UK, and now it looks like it might just skip it for the souped up Pixi Plus with Wi-Fi. Don’t be surprised if we hear something official soon.
