iPad video support could be headed to hundreds of top websites thanks to web video provider Brightcove. It’s announced that it will offer an HTML5 framework to customers which will allow them to offer iPad video as well as support for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Brightcove powers streaming video on loads of newspaper websites including The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and the New York Times, which was heavily feature in Steve Jobs’s iPad launch keynote.
Though Brightcove has stated that it is not ditching Flash, the move to allow sites to replace it with HTML5 means iPad video will be easier to deliver and strikes a further blow to Adobe in their ongoing battle royale with Apple.
If sites like The Guardian, implemented the Brightcove HTML5 system, iPad rivals like the forthcoming HP Slate will find it harder to slam its lack of Flash support.
Youtube is also working on moving to HTML5 meaning the future for Flash could start to look bleak if customers flock to sites offering support for iPad video streaming.
