You could soon be using your Freeview set top box to pipe Sky Player through to your TV. IP Vision has given us a first glimpse and a launch windows for Sky TV running on its free to air FetchTV box, and it’s shaping up nicely. Fancy paying for Sky Sports only on the crunch match months? Here’s how.

Grab one of IP Vision’s FetchTV Freeview boxes, and not only will you soon be getting the slick EPG we showed you earlier this week, but an update to give you Sky Player on demand. The service is in final beta testing, with a public release expected within two months, so we should see it by May.

Sky Player has only been available on desktop and Xbox 360 until now, so adding it to a dedicated Freeview box is a novel step for Sky. While existing Sky subscribers will benefit the most by accessing viddy from their packages, the minimum one month contract for Sky Fetch TV boxes will require is enticing for newcomers too. It means you can simply pipe in Sky only when you want it, so if there’s a Premiership derby or cricket test on you don’t want to miss, you only have to pay for those 30 days.

We’ll be sure to let you know when Sky Player rolls out for FetchTV Freeview boxes. The standard definition model is already on sale at John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse and Currys online for £219, but a Freeview HD model is planned for around the same time as the Sky Player launch, so you’ll soon be spoiled for choice.
