The Samsung Wave S8500 bada smartphone was the star of the show at Mobile World Congress last month, and while it’s already been surpassed by the Samsung Galaxy S, it looks like it could make it to Blighty first: it’s just popped up for pre-order, and for much less than we expected.

Head on over to Play.com and you’ll see that the Samsung Wave S8500, which packs a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen and Sammy’s new bada OS, is ready to order now, with a release date of 17 May. Considering the next gen tech shore horned inside its thin shell, the Samsung Wave S8500 won’t cost that much unlocked either, coming in at £339.99, so we’d hope to see it free on decent 18 month contracts.

We could be seeing the Samsung Wave S8500 appearing on pay monthly tariffs before then however: mobile phone blog and price comparison site Omio says it’s got word that the phone is expected to go on sale in the first week of May. Given its recent and accurate leak of the HTC Bravo/Desire, we don’t doubt its sources.

Given Samsung has a whole new OS running on the Samsung Wave S8500, you can expect to hear a whole lot more about the phone in run up to launch, so stay tuned.
