The Nintendo 3DS emerged blinking into the light in a press release quietly pushed out by Nintendo Japan. Though it is currently called the Nintendo 3DS, it’s suggested that may be a temporary name.
Most excitingly, Nintendo is promising that the Nintendo 3DS will introduce 3D handheld gaming but won’t need the glasses we’ve seen popping up with tech like Sky 3D to give you eye popping visuals.
Interestingly, Nintendo boss, Satoru Iwata, slammed 3D gaming back in January but his big issue was with the 3D glasses. The Nintendo 3DS seemingly skips that problem.
While the Nintendo 3DS will introduce a new line up of 3D games, Nintendo has already confirmed backwards compatibility for current Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games.
There had been suggestions that the Nintendo DS successor would feature motion control smarts but Nintendo hasn’t revealed whether the Nintendo 3DS will fit those in.
Nintendo will reveal the Nintendo 3DS at the E3 gaming conference in June but it won’t be hitting the shops until March 2011.
Is adding 3D to the Nintendo DS to create the Nintendo 3DS enough? What other tricks are you hoping Nintendo can tuck into the Nintendo 3DS?
