FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD: Freeview HD PVR with a super slick EPG

The FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD is a brand spanking new Freeview HD PVR unveiled today. It’s got a massive hard drive, always a plus, but we’re loving the new look menus more than anything else. Why wait for Virgin Media‘s TiVo Premiere box when we can have this, right now?

The Wi-Fi infused FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD is a Freeview HD PVR with a 320GB hard drive for stashing hours of high def shows and films on, but it’s the web connected skills that stand out. Like Humax’ latest line, it’ll act as a media streamer for slinging photos, music and video from a computer on your network, and it also has access to the FetchTV IPTV platform.

Freeview HD loses out on Five HD

That gives you video on demand, and will soon include even Sky Player, and you’ll be able to jump to it all on the FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD with a new look UI also revealed today. The system is a little bit like Sony’s XMB, with horizontal and vertical lines of options, but provides picture in picture broadcasts, and is much easier on the eye. We’re told that it’ll also be delivered to the current standard definition Freeview FetchTV box too, free of charge.

The FetchTV SmartBox 8320HD will go on sale before July, and while no price has been set, the company behind it, IP Vision, is aiming for somewhere in the region of £220.
