The Sony Vaio E series made its debut early last month, but now the workhorse line of laptops has two extra sizes: a garish 14-inch portable number, and a slick 17-inch slab. And because they’re Sony machines, both pack a Blu-ray drive to double up as media players.
Up first, the new 17.3 inch Sony Vaio E series is shaping up to be a tidy desktop replacement machine when it ships: it packs up to 500GB of storage, an Intel Core i5 processor, full HD resolution screen and up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, along with ATI Mobility Radeon 5000 graphics and Blu-ray.
The new, larger Sony Vaio E series model also packs a panic button just like its predecessor, which summons Vaio Care help should Windows 7 start going wonky.

Much more up our street though is the more portable 14-inch Sony Vaio E series. At 1600×900, the screen isn’t quite so sharp, but it still boasts the same Blu-ray drive, memory and storage space, plus an intel Core i3 CPU, and HDMI to plug it into your flatscreen TV.
For better or worse, the smaller Sony Vaio E series also happens to come in a range of neon colours (Pink, blue and lime green) along with the more traditional black or white.
Both new Sony Vaio E series models ship in May, with price still to be confirmed, but get a peep at them here in our gallery right now.
