Polaroid stopped making instant film in 2004 but now The Impossible Project has announced that it has succeeded in creating a new instant film that will work in millions of existing Polaroid cameras. Read on to find how to get hold of the Impossible Project’s replacement for Polaroid film.
The Impossible Project which preserved the last functioning Polaroid plant in Enschede will start selling its first products, PX 100 and PX 600 Silver Shade, monochrome instant film for Polaroid SX 70 cameras this Thursday (March 25).
You can grab the Polaroid replacement film from The Impossible Project’s website. A pack of 8 shots will set you back $18 (£16). £2 a shot is not cheap but is bound to appeal to the large community of Polaroid obsessives that have been watching The Impossible Project with interest.
The Impossible Project sold some of the final Polaroid film stock through Urban Outfitters last year with boxes designed by Paul Giambarba who worked on the design of the original Polaroid packaging. New Polaroid cameras are also planned.
A further 6 types of instant film compatible with Polaroid cameras are planned by The Impossible Project in 2010 including its first colour film due this summer and films for the Polaroid Image, Polaroid Spectra and Polaroid 1200 cameras later in the year.
Have you got an old Polaroid camera ready to be dug out from the back of the cupboard? Or would you be willing to buy one to get in on all the instant photography fun? We wonder if Polaroid creative director, Lady Gaga, has got her order in yet.
