A Number 10 iPhone app has hit the App Store, bringing official word from Gordon Brown and Downing Street to Apple owners up and down the land. Want to know what the man in charge is up to on a regular basis? Read on for the lowdown on it.

Gordon Brown only revealed plans for an official Number 10 iPhone app this morning at the launch of the government’s MyGov online strategy, but it’s already live and ready to download for nothing at all.

The Number 10 iPhone app does opt for the lazy option of simply pulling in Number 10′s news feed, but it also adds a few extra options in, including the ability to check out galleries, audio and video clips and even the official Number 10 Twitter feed.

It’s a curious move from Downing Street, and we’d have hoped for a mobile optimised site over an Number 10 iPhone app, since there are a fair few constituents out there with other phones. But it’s been met with largely solid reviews so far – in fact the most negative comment so far suggests it could only be improved “with a different Prime Minister.”

The Number 10 iPhone app is available to download for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store now.
