Lady Gaga has stuck her toe into the tech world before, becoming creative director at Polaroid, now she’s revealed a hitherto unknown love of real-time strategy games. In the latest Lady Gaga video, Telephone, EA’s Command and Conquer series gets the nod.
The entirely not safe for work Lady Gaga video for Telephone, her duet with Beyonce, has a frankly baffling prison plot but is also jam packed with pop culture references.
The most interesting Lady Gaga video lift is a reference to Tiberium, the alien material at the heart of the Tiberian series of Command and Conquer games.
Command and Conquer gets its moment at 7.07 minutes in when Lady Gaga brews up a poison (the Cook’n’Kill lunch special) which includes Tiberium in its recipe. Meta-cyanide from Dune and Fex-M3, a nerve toxin from Star Wars, also make the mix.
We gave Lady Gaga a good review for her Fame Monster album and would love to see her stick some more gaming references in future videos. Maybe she could duet with Sonic in time for Sonic 4: Episode 1 next or steal Mario from Princess Peach.
