The iPad will be the go to place for all forms of media in future, Rupert Murdoch has declared in a new interview. Given that Murdoch happens to be the world’s biggest media mogul, we’re inclined to sit up and listen: read on for the video and what he had to say.

In an interview on the Fox Business channel, the tycoon turned once more to his favourite talking point of late: the iPad. While we heard him bigging up iPad apps earlier this month, this time he stressed how the Apple tablet and its rivals would be soon be the leading repository of all forms of multimedia.

“All media is going to go on to the iPad, whether it be music or books or newspapers or movies, you’ll be able to get on your iPad…they’ll get better and better and you’ll be able to do more tricks with it,” he said.

iPad apps: Murdoch “sold” on tablets

Murdoch also said that tablet rivals to the iPad would help the form factor go mainstream. “It’ll be pretty small to start with but you know there’ll be more iPads, there’s competition coming from people like Samsung and LG coming very quickly, Hewlett Packard in a matter of three or four months,” he said.

Given the raging pre-order success the iPad has proved, even if Murdoch didn’t own News Corp and Fox, it certainly looks like he might be right. That little global empire of his though might just prove the clincher. Skip to the good stuff at 1:40 in the video below, and let us know what you’re thoughts are on the iPad: will it be the trendsetter for media in the years to come?

I think he meant to say that all types of media can go on the iPad considering how he followed it up. This article is pointless.

I disagree David – Murdoch owns TV, film, radio, magazine, newspaper and web companies. Nobody is better placed than him to comment on what media firms have planned for the iPad. I mean, if News International and Fox combined their assets on the iPad, there’s no reason you wouldn’t end up watching a Star Trek movie within the official Star Trek magazine, or seeing digital versions of the free DVDs given away with newspapers.

How cool would that be? Don’t buy the Sunday Times in print and fiddle with the free DVD – just read it instantly on your iPad, oh, and get the free movie there too.

I don`t think anyone would say that Rupert Murdoch is totally wrong. I agree with him. Actually nowadays all the media content is gradually moving into iPad. Soon we`ll get more such tablet devices from various manufacturers and so this digital media content popularity will only grow. In some years we`ll probably forget about paper books and magazines, cause it`s really more convenient to have them on the iPad, let alone videos. So I think Murdoch is quite right in his predictions.

I certainly think there'll be a large transition. But until tablets really move from being passive ways to consume media rather than actives one as laptops and PCs are on the web, I think the status quo may largely stay the same.
