Nintendo DS 2 rumours broke out like a rash once more last month, and now with the Game Developers Conference wrapped for another year, even more details are starting to spill out. Developer kits are reportedly doing the rounds already, and a potential launch is coming soon: read on for the lowdown.
Games journalist Raymond Padilla spent much of the big game conference in San Francisco last week grilling developers on the long rumoured Nintendo DS 2. While he wasn’t able to come back with a definitive name, he reports a few more details on the innards and the design of the Nintendo DS 2 on top of what we heard last month about an accelerometer and iPhone style motion controls.
Nintendo DS 2 packs motion sensitive controls
The Nintendo DS 2 will boast two screens, but they’ll be sharper and much closer to the hinge, according to Padilla’s sources, so as to form one screen for new gameplay and cut scene possibilities. Padilla couldn’t confirm that the Nintendo DS 2 will pack Nvidia Tegra or Tegra 2 graphics, but developers revealed that the units they were testing on could rival the Nintendo GameCube console for 3D graphics, and was proving very easy to develop for.
So easy in fact, that the Nintendo DS 2 games being worked on right now will be finished before the end of the year, meaning a launch could come in time for the Christmas rush. If so, don’t be too surprised if we hear a bit more about the Nintendo DS 2 at E3 this Summer. Can Nintendo keep ahead in a post iPad world? By snaring developers with easy code and a slick new design, the Nintendo DS 2 might just see off Cupertino’s casual gaming threat after all.
