Natal boss, Aaron Greenberg, has responded to Playstation Move with a robust defence of Natal against its motion sensing rival. Read on for his pitch on why Natal will nuke the Playstation Move…

Greenberg was asked to compare Project Natal to Playstation Move but was seemingly unable to mention his rival’s name, preferring instead to focus entirely on the Microsoft motion detecting device.

Greenberg said: “We believe controller-free experiences are the future of gaming and entertainment. Only Project Natal makes you the controller, putting you in the middle of the action and in complete control.”

While Greenberg didn’t directly talk about Playstation Move, he was clearly contrasting Natal with its controller-less set-up with Playstation Move and its wand and nunchuck.

He continues: “[With Natal] jump and your avatar jumps. Speak and your characters respond. Combined with Xbox Live, Project Natal will transform how you connect with your friends, family and entertainment…”

While we’ve heard that recent demos revealed a slight Natal delay, folk lucky enough to handle the system seem to think that doesn’t spoil the gameplay. Meanwhile we’ve got a good look at the Playstation Move games selection.

But is Greenberg right to believe that Natal will batter Playstation Move this Christmas when the pair of motion control combatants go head-to-head?

Natal obviously has the better motion sensing capabilities but do we really want/need the extra spec just to have ‘controller-free experiences’. I personally think the Wii and Move controllers are perfect for gaming and would prefer to hold a controller/bat/wheel etc with extra buttons to make me feel as thought I’m more part of the game. The winner between Natal and Move? It’ll all come down to price and games games games!!!

I’ve still yet to try out Natal so I can’t say for sure, but I know what you mean. The tactile feel of actually holding something could prove hard to give up. Truth be told I find the motion sensing heavy games on the Wii quite boring – I’m much more excited about the media browsing possibilities of Natal. Imagine being able to sit on your sofa and leaf through everything on your Xbox just by waving your hand. I can’t wait to see the results.

Move has a camera. I’m sure it can tell if you’re jumping…

sure it can, but can it translate it into the game? that’s were natal has an advantage over the eyetoy. It can translate your movements into the game. If you swing your fist, your avatar will swing their fist, which would be awesome for boxing games. I have not tried out natal and i’m not 100% sure it workd but i’m hoping! I’ll make sure i will be one of the first to get it if I am sure.

If you swing your fist with the playstation move, your character will also swing its fist. As for “speak and your character responds”, that is again something the playstation move can do.

The playstation eye has a microphone same as natal and so if someone wants to develop speech recognition and put it in to a game they will. That is not something that Natal does. The playstation eye can already headtrack even without the move controllers.

Obviously the software will be the key. The move is more “conventional” though in terms of the data it sends, and so it can be added into existing games (Socom 4, LittleBigPlanet) in a matter of a few weeks. Natal could be very impressive, but the games are going to need to be specific to it. There probably won’t be games with Natal as a control option like there will be with the move. This could limit the range of games that Natal will have at launch, and if it is expensive could put people off.

*That is not something that Natal does EXCLUSIVELY
