Halo: Reach will be the last Halo game from Bungie. So it makes sense that Bungie would be thinking about its next big project and a clue to a Halo successor seems to have popped up online. The mysterious new Bungie project is called Bungie Aerospace. Is a new series to follow Halo getting ready to fly?

The observant folk at Attack of the Fanboy have spied a recent Bungie trademark registration to the United States Patent and Trademark office. It details a new project called Bungie Aerospace which could well be Bungie’s next move after Halo.

Bungie Aersopace is an odd name, the project is definitely connected to gaming but it doesn’t seem that it will be a new game but more likely a game engine. Rather than replacing Halo, Bungie Aerospace could be the engine powering a new game series.

Interestingly, Bungie has also filed a new trademark for Marathon, the first person shooter that came before Halo. Marathon began life on Mac and Apple’s almost entirely forgotten Pippin games console.

Marathon 2: Durandhal, one of the game’s two sequels hit Xbox Live Arcade in 2007 and is still there if you fancy seeing how it holds up. A revived Marathon game to follow Halo might make sense with Mac gaming having had a boost with the announcement of Half Life and Steam for Mac.

We can expect future Halo games from 343 Industries but it would be odd for the brain trust at Bungie not to produce a new title. Perhaps Bungie Aerospace and Marathon point to its plan.
