Nokia 7230 unboxed!

The Nokia 7230 promised to be a cheap and cheerful phone with easy access to Facebook when it launched last year. It’s just gone up for pre-order bang on schedule, and we’ve nabbed one for an unboxing to see if it lives up to expectations. Read on for the photos and first impressions!

Before we proceed, it’s best not to get your hopes up too high with the Nokia 7230. Running Symbian S40 on a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, it’s going to limit anyone with aspirations beyond checking Facebook and uploading the odd photo to Flickr.

But if that’s all you want to do, the Nokia 7230 is a rock solid blower. The sliding mechanism is much smoother than the Nokia X3‘s, and Nokia has come up with a masterful keypad, with individual raised buttons that’ll see you firing off SMS missiles at a clip.

The Nokia 7230 has 3G built in so you won’t be hanging around waiting for web pages to load, and there’s a 3.5mm audio port so you can use your own headphones. Weirdly, the box doesn’t include a micro USB cable, but if you don’t have one already you can pick one up online for a pittance.

Nokia 6303i drops price, goes gold

Our one reservation with the Nokia 7230 though doesn’t have anything to do with build or software, but the price: it’s available to order on Nokia’s online store for £129 SIM-free, nearly £40 more than originally promised.

Why would buy a Nokia 7230, when the smarter and slicker Symbian S60 fuelled Nokia C5 is expected to cost less? We’re not sure, but if you just can’t get enough of sliding handsets, take a look at the Nokia 7230 coming out of its box here in our gallery.

This is supposed to come with a 2 GB microSD Card in the box, but you’ve made no mention of that?
