Monkey Island 2 will hit the iPhone this summer as well as arriving on Mac, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The new Monkey Island 2: Special edition will be even more polished than last year’s Monkey: Island special edition with new graphics, remastered music and a new voiceover from the original Monkey Island cast.

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will also ditch the point-and-click control system which was such a familiar party of Monkey Island games. Instead, Monkey Island 2 will allow you to control hero Guybrush Threepwood directly. That’ll make Monkey Island 2: Special Edition easier to play but slightly odd for retro gaming buffs.

It’s good news for Mac gamers too. After this week’s announcement that Half Life, Portal 2 and the rest of Valve’s Steam service catalogue of games will hit Mac OS X, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will be joining them there. Monkey Island 2 is confirmed for iPhone, iPod, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this summer.

As well as the newly polished graphics and suped-up soundtrack, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will also include a new in depth hint system and the option to play a commentary by the game’s creators, Ron Gilbert and Tim Schaefer.

We heard rumours that Monkey Island would be coming to the iPad a while back. With the release date for Monkey Island 2: Special Edition set for the summer, we’re certain we’ll see a Monkey Island iPad app too.
