iPad and iPhone SDK detectives have uncovered more secrets from Apple’s software kit. It’s bad news for people dreaming of an iPad camera but reveals new gestures for the iPad and iPhone 4.0.

iPad camera rumours have been swirling after a recent iPad SDK update seemed to point to iPad iChat features in a future model. It looks like that won’t be too soon though. If you believe the iPhone SDK, the iPad isn’t getting a camera just yet.

The notes in the latest iPhone SDK, the long-windedly named iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4, include the follow tidbit:

“Launching the Photos application under the iPad Simulator will initially show three tabs: Photos, Albums and Camera. The Camera tab represents photos available via the Camera Connection Kit for iPad…”

So much for the mad dreams of the iPad getting a camera before it hits the shelves. It turns out the Camera tab in the iPad simulator disappears after a few seconds.

However, the new iPhone SDK does reveal that the iPad will get a batch of new gestures which are also likely to make their way into iPhone 4.0.

Details in the new iPhone SDK show that Apple has opened up new gestures to developers including the long tap which is currently used for copy/paste functions on the iPhone and the triple-tap.

It’s good to see more multitouch command the iPhone and iPad available for developers to play with but we’re still gagging for that damn camera.
