A new Final Fantasy game could be the first in the RPG series to make the leap to full 3D, according to the producer of Final Fantasy 13. Read on for what’s in store.

It’s been a busy week for Square Enix, with Final Fantasy 13 hitting shelves and Final Fantasy 14 entering beta for a lucky few, but Final Fantasy 13 producer Yoshinori Kitase found the time to tell the BBC about what to expect from the giant franchise in the future, and that may just include 3D.

When asked if a future Final Fantasy game could be made in 3D, Kitase replied that while there are no “immediate plans to introduce 3D technologies, we have started making researches [sic] and we will continue to develop new technologies.”

Kitase also pointed to that 3D Final Fantasy 13 trailer that was made to be shown before Avatar in cinemas, so it’s clear that Square Enix has the next dimension high up the priority list.

Sadly, he wouldn’t be drawn on what we could expect from a Final Fantasy 15, so we’ll just have to make do with the snippets of info that beta testers of 14 let slip in the meantime.
