The new line of Sony Bravia TVs come filled with Freeview HD skills, but if you’re prepared to wait a bit longer for your next gogglebox, you might be able to pick one up with a whole Freeview HD PVR built in. Read on to find out when you could ditch your set top box once and for all.
The current line of Sony Bravia Freeview HD TVs, including the gorgeous NX803 HDTV, all let you catch the big terrestrial channels in high def, with no set top boxes required. But they don’t let you record Freeview HD programming, whether with a USB stick or a built in hard drive, as Samsung‘s latest Blu-ray players will.

That could soon change though. We asked Christian Brown, senior category marketing manager for Sony home entertainment, whether future Sony Bravia TVs could pack Freeview HD recording skills, and he told us that “we’re about a year away from having something along those lines…it’s [a case of] finding out what consumer will be willing to pay for.”
A year is a long time to wait, but if you’re in the 50 per cent of the country left without Freeview HD still by Summer, it’s something to hold out for. Want to cut the cable clutter once and for all? Watch this space.
