We stumbled across the Samsung BD-C8500M Blu-ray player at the South Korean giant’s Spring launch event tonight and did a double take. Freeview HD? A massive hard drive and media streaming skills over Wi-Fi? Lovefilm and BBC iPlayer streaming? We think we’ve just found our dream set top box: read on for the Samsung BD-C8500M photos.

The Samsung BD-C8500M is a 3D friendly Blu-ray player in the piano black mould of models we saw back at CES, but Sammy has put a very British stamp all over it. For one, the Samsung BD-C8500M packs a DVB-T2 tuner so it’ll happily chuck Freeview HD on to your flatscreen, or record it on to a 500GB hard drive (the BD-C8200M has a 250GB hard drive). Secondly, it’s got access to the Internet@TV platform, meaning you’ll be able to stream Auntie on demand and Lovefilm movies onto your gogglebox without the wait for the postie to bring you your next disc.
Freeview HD 50% coverage by World Cup
Wi-Fi and DLNA certification, so you can stream media from a PC or server straight to your HDTV, round off the Samsung BD-C8500M. All that remains to be seen is the image quality: sadly the Samsung BD-C8500M wasn’t plugged in to a TV, but we’ve got this one down as one to watch nonetheless.
The good news is the Samsung BD-C8500M is just around the corner too, with a specified launch date unlike Humax‘ first hard drive infused Freeview HD box. Expect to see it in April or early May – we’ll be sure to bring you a pricetag for the Samsung BD-C8500M as soon as it’s confirmed. In the meantime, check out the Samsung BD-C8500M Freeview HD Blu-ray box right here in our hands on gallery.
