Final Fantasy 13, the latest game in the long running RPG series, hits stores today, at long last. Read on for what to expect – and where to find the best prices.

Square Enix has been teasing Final Fantasy 13 since as far back as 2006, but now the latest instalment has hit PS3 and Xbox 360, just as the beta of Final Fantasy 14 begins for a select few. Unlike 14 though, Final Fantasy 13 is a strictly single player affair, promising even hundreds of hours of gameplay and a new battle system as you fight your way through the world of Pulse.

Final Fantasy 14 beta kicks off

As for pricing, the best deals online for Final Fantasy 13 are at Zavvi, which at £34.95 beats most stores by a fiver. Game has some attractive trade-in deals in store if you’re prepared to give up a recent title like Modern Warfare 2 for money off, but if you’re hoping to nab the Final Fantasy 13 collector’s edition on the cheap, we can’t find anywhere selling it for less than £59.99.

Oh, and if you’re in the mood for fancy dress, HMV Oxford Street in London is holding a Final Fantasy 13 launch event this evening, from 5.30-7.30pm, with soundtracks to give away to early arrivals. We’ll be dropping by to get a look at the cosplay close up.

We’ll have a full Final Fantasy 13 review shortly, so stay tuned and we’ll bring you the lowdown on it.
