The Panasonic Lumix G2, the true sequel to the first ever Micro Four Thirds camera, the G1, has finally been made official, and it’s sporting a finger friendly LCD display. Has it been worth 18 months of waiting? Does a touchscreen really help you take better shots? Read on for what we know so far about the Panasonic Lumix G2.

Like the newly announced G10, the Panasonic Lumix G2 (Or Lumix DMC-G2 to give its full name), packs a 12.1 megapixel sensor, and Panasonic and Olympus’ Micro Four Thirds standard for interchangeable lenses.

Uniquely for the format though, the Panasonic Lumix G2 packs a twisting, tilting, touchscreen three inch LCD display, for setting the controls and adjusting the focus by mushing the screen with a digit. We’re still not convinced touchscreens have made compact cameras easier to use, but we’re interested to see whether it helps navigate the more complex range of settings on the Panasonic Lumix G2.

The Panasonic Lumix G2 also shoots 720p high definition video in AVCHD lite, and like last year’s GH1, comes in a range of colours: black, red, or blue.
