iPad made its official TV debut during the Oscars with an iPad ad popping up during one of the commercial breaks. The iPad ad is in Apple’s usual style with plenty of glimpses of the iBooks store, a big role for Star Trek and brief cameos for Ted Kennedy and the Eiffel Tower.

The first iPad ad shows a man with highly airbrushed hands browsing his photos, watching the latest Star Trek film and flipping through Ted Kennedy’s memoir True Compass in the iBooks app. There’s also a glimpse of Google Maps zooming in on the Eiffel tower and a peek at the Calendar app.

Star Trek seems to be a big favourite at Apple. It turned up in Steve Jobs’s demonstration during the iPad announcement as well as featuring twice in the iPad ad.

The soundtrack for iPad ad comes from Danish band, The Blue Van, with a song called There Goes My Love. It’s not a new song. It appeared on The Blue Van’s 2008 album Man Up which is currently unrated in the iTunes store.

The iPad ad gives the launch date as April 3 reflecting the iPad delay which was announced on Friday. If you want to get a glimpse at more iBooks, take a look at the Penguin iPad books concept.
