The Fujifilm HS10 is one of a few new super zoom cameras we caught lounging on the show floor at Focus On Imaging today, threatening all those budget DSLRs with their ease of use and low price tag. We grabbed it for a quick hands-on: see the photos here.
In case you missed the Fujifilm HS10 back at launch last month, it’s one of a new breed of chunky compact cameras filled to the brim with quality tech, with Olympus and Nikon also getting in on the game. The Fujifilm HS10 packs a 10 megapixel sensor and the ability to shoot in full HD 1080p video at a smooth 30 frames per second.
The Fujifilm HS10 will also shoot in RAW, giving you greater scope to tweak your snaps in Photoshop afterwards, but it’s the enormous 30x optical zoom that makes this stand out – it’s even longer than the 26x monster on the end of the Nikon Coolpix P100.
While we like the rock solid build of the Fujifilm HS10, we’re not won over by the zoom mechanism, which compared to the P100 feels cheap and more breakable.
But hey, until now Nikon’s not exactly been streaks ahead in the HD video department, so the Fujifilm HS10 could well go toe to toe with it still. We’ll have to wait for review units to make final judgement, but the Fujifilm HS10 is defintely one to keep an eye on.
The Fujifilm HS10 will ship in 6 to 8 weeks, we’re told, so look for it at the back end of April or early May.
