Assassin’s Creed 2 is currently unplayable thanks to a problem with Ubisoft’s servers. The new DRM system on new Ubisoft games including Assassin’s Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5 requires players to be online to play the games on their PC (including single-player). Have you been locked out of Assassin’s Creed 2?

Assassin’s Creed 2 players with the PC version of the game were unable to play it for over 10 hours. Without access to Ubisoft’s servers, the game will not allow you to access saved games or create new one.

Ubisoft took to Twitter to apologise for the Assassin’s Creed downtime: “Apologies to anyone who couldn’t play ACII yesterday…Servers were attacked which limited service from 2.30pm to 9pm Paris time.” Players on the Ubisoft forums suggest that the developers have underestimated the time the game was unavailable.

Assassin’s Creed 2 PC players have also flooded the forums with complaints about Ubisoft’s new DRM method which is likely to be used for the PC version of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Maybe it’s best to keep things simple with the Assassin’s Creed 2 Multiplayer iPhone app.

Does requiring constant authentication for its PC games mean you’ll be steering clear of Splinter Cell: Conviction? And did you find yourself locked out of Assassin’s Creed 2? Let us know…
