HTC Desire: UK hands-on!

The HTC Desire super charged Android phone with Sense social networking skills hits UK high streets next month, but we don’t like to hang about. Want to see a HTC Desire handled outside of the confines of a sweaty tradeshow? Here’s a gallery right here, right now, with a full review to follow soon.

The HTC Desire was one of HTC’s flagship new smartphones revealed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month, and while we grabbed some face time with it there, Fonehome’s nabbed one to put through its paces in the UK, and exposed it to beautiful sunlight for the first time.

HTC Desire unveiled!

As you can see from the HTC Desire photos, the eye popping AMOLED 3.7-inch screen actually copes well outdoors, even if it’s not in quite the same league as the Super AMOLED screen on the Samsung Wave, and HTC’s tried and tested teflon coating looks delightful as usual.

Is the HTC Desire really a step up from the similarly specced Nexus One? Can a trackball, a different moniker and a Facebook widget make this more of a must have? We’ll bring you the full lowdown in a HTC Desire review shortly, but in the meantime, sate your peepers with these pics right here!

The Desire is a good looking phone. It is based on the Google Nexus One: one major difference is that the active noise cancellation microphone has been removed. Hopefully this will mean the monthly contract cost will be within most peoples pockets! I think these will do much better than the Nexus One, purely because they’ll be easier to purchase [straight from your provider, rather than through the big G!]. It looks like those photos were taken outside. How is the AMOLED screen under sunlight? From those pictures it looks pretty good, but it’s hard to tell how much sunlight is falling onto the screen.

Just ordered myself a HTC Hero on T-Mobile, they have insane offers on Heros at the moment, to clear stock for the desire.

Ironically, the Hero is getting a Andoird 2.1 update very soon anyway, meaning that there is little difference between a Desire and a upgraded Hero…

Aside from the fact that the internals in the Desire are much better and should give a quicker mobile experience?
