Newgadgets.de has the lowdown on the Asus Eee Media EM0501, on show at CeBIT this week in Hannover, Germany. The small black box has all the smudgy fingerprints of an Eee machine, but much more prowess than a shonky netbook: the HDMI sporting Asus Eee Media EM0501 will play back H.264, DivX and Xvid encoded videos (Even MKV files, which is good news for anyone with a TV filesharing addiction), while audiophiles will rate the FLAC file support on offer.

The Asus Eee Media EM0501 also boasts an SD card slot and USB port so you can pop in the latest pics and videos from your camera, but a hard drive of unspecified capacity is also included. We’re told that ethernet is onboard, but Wi-Fi isn’t, although the spec list visible in one photo clearly specifies the latest N-standard Wi-Fi.
We’ve reached out to Asus UK for further details on the Asus Eee Media EM0501, and we’ll update as and when we get them.
