Portal has had another little tweak following the introduction of secret messages and radios that teased the arrival of a Portal sequel, a Half Life sequel or even both. The latest teaser from Valve is an extra 15 seconds added to the ending of Portal. Warning: spoiler ahead…

Valve are clearly gearing up for an announcement, probably at the forthcoming Game Developers Conference. After adding secret radio messages into Portal, they’ve now updated the ending of the game. That hints at a new character and both a new Portal game and a follow up to Half Life 2: Episode 2.

In the original ending to Portal, you woke up in the car park outside the Aperture Science building and it faded to black. Now you stay conscious for a little bit longer. A robot approaches (but remains out of your line of sight). You’re told: “Thank you for assuming the party escort submission position…” Then you’re dragged away.

Coupled with the images revealed through decoding the Portal radio messages, the new Portal ending suggests that the story is about to be continued. Does Valve have a new Portal game up its sleeve or a Half Life Sequel? The games exist in the same fictional universe so we could even end up getting both.
