Nokia Terminal Mode is a great new initiative from the Finnish giant to get you snapping up its smartphones bundled with a free satnav in Ovi Maps. It’s getting together with auto makers to offer handset slots right on the dashboard, so you’ll never have to worry about suction marks on the windscreen, or where you left your satnav ever again. There’s no doubt that smartphones can make great satnavs, but they could make even better ones if they integrated with your car’s dash and console screen. That’s where Nokia Terminal Mode comes in: cars that join the scheme will let you plop a phone right in there, and let you use its navigation, web browsing, media skills and more right on the big screen.
Nokia Ovi Maps gets free navigation
The Nokia Terminal Mode mock up you see here running with a Nokia N97 is from Valmet, but several other companies are in on the initiative, including Alpine, Harman Becker and Fiat, so a few years down the line you could really be spoiled for choice.
