Heavy Rain has only just hit the shelves but New Line Cinema, home to the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings,  snapped up the film rights some time ago it seems. Are you ready for the Origami Killer on the big screen?

Quantic Dream’s interactive fiction, Heavy Rain, was in development for donkey’s years before it finally dropped into our laps last week but it seems the film rights were nabbed a while back.

Copyright documents dug up by a web sleuth reveal that New Line Productions optioned Heavy Rain in May 2006, only days after the Heavy Rain trailer popped up at E3.

The fact that New Line Productions has the rights to make a Heavy Rain film doesn’t mean they will, of course. Studio option things all the time without actually ever getting round to rolling the cameras.

Have you played Heavy Rain yet? Let us know how well you think it would translate to celluloid. And if you haven’t, make sure you check out our Heavy Rain review to find out whether you should.
