UPDATE: As we expected, the webOS 1.4 update for the Palm Pre is rolling out on O2 in the UK now.

If you’re a Palm Pre owner in the UK, you could be about to receive a nice little over the air upgrade, bringing video recording and even Flash support to your webOS wonder. Read on to see how we know, and what else is in store.

Rumours of a webOS 1.4 update that adds video recording to the Palm Pre’s camera, along with email and messaging improvements and Flash 10.0 support, have been circulating for a while over in the States, but one PreCentral forum member’s unlocked, European GSM Palm Pre is getting the update as of this minute, and he’s provided the screenshots to prove it.

Of course the Palm Pre is sold exclusively on O2′s network here in the UK, meaning updates like this are likely to be delayed whilst it checks everything is A-OK with them.

Palm UK declined to comment on whether it would be rolling out the update for UK Palm Pre users as it’s tipped to for US owners, but given its previous track record for launching major upgrades at midnight, we wouldn’t be surprised if that lovely little notification message sprung up tonight or over the next few days.

Has your Palm Pre been prompted to update? Let us know in the comments below.

No 1.4 yet, but also update is not working properly, as of yesterday! keeps displaying there are updates, but not actually showing me any. And on a few occassions today a ‘could not connect message’ has displayed when I try to update. I reckon they (O2) must be up to something just now, maybe theres lots of updates going on just now and the system is busy!

Thanks for the tip Rob, we’ve got a query in with O2 now. Cheers!

I have the O2 Pre on Orange via a Rebel Sim… What are the chances I’ll get the updates through automatically? or do you reckon i’ll have to do it manually when it is availiable?

If it’s unlocked I should have thought it was ready to update straight away, without any need for networks to doublecheck anything. Can you try forcing an update now?

I bought a Palm Pre 4 days ago from O2 & on trying out the camera first time today I thought I had taken stills but 2 of them (which I had thought would be widescreen – rotating the Palm) turned out to be decent quality videos – surprise surprise!
